Agony In The Garden Poem by Patrick Fealy

Agony In The Garden

I spied Him in the garden
when secretly I had prayed
unworthy to be near him though
but quietly I stayed
my heart was moved to watch him
mourning all alone
abandoned by companions
his wounded spirit groaned
He grieved just like a lover there
abandoned and bereaved
banished unrequited love
to heaven he did heave
Angels came around him
helpless to console
the savior of the universe
this lamb that was foretold
In truth his heart was broken
His love seemed all for naught
I can still remember him
I never have forgot
He broke into a bloody sweat
that fell like ruby rain
gushing from his wounded soul
bursting from his brain
It stained the earth around him
the color of his gown
no such royal mantle here
could ever there be found
Let this cup pass from me
I heard him say again
this he said repeatedly
A prayer like a refrain
at times my tears still blind me
at times when I recall
the suffering I costed him
this lover of us all
