In her salad days,
Susie aspired to be a singer.
But her sweet voice,
widely admired by friends and family,
did not hit the right note
for the hit parade
or the club scene.
She tried many a strategy to get noticed,
but none of them paid off
so, she did a selection of jobs,
finally becoming secretary
to a song writer,
who needed someone to do his demos.
Turned out Susie's was the just the voice he needed.
At 37, she could do sultry and sexy
even better than she did sweet.
She went down a storm
in the smoky jazz club
owned by her employer.
Not only that,
she could scat
with the best of them.
Ideal in this case,
because the songwriters lyrics
left a lot to be desired.
