Allowing Joy Poem by Shaun McGurgan

Allowing Joy

The spiritless metronome
laid its heavy syllables
on the contours of my life

Frost veined and muddy on fertile loam
To pause after a long struggle
gulping for fly blown air

Instead I lie in trembling grass
And allow the sunshine to scythe bitterness
and unsheathe joy
