And It Rained Poem by Santosh Bakaya

And It Rained

Rating: 5.0

Will it, won't it, will it rain?
The spirited peacock does not complain
But lifts its wings majestically
And in sync with the koel's sanguine refrain
Begins to prance, and breaks into dance
Not for it to reason
Will it, won't it, will it rain?

The rain gods raise a lackadaisical eye
With a sigh, snuggle some more, ah so nonchalant,
Indifferent to the parched earth's lament
Will it, won't it, will it rain?

From the lamppost the myna peers
As the peacock nears, wondering
Will it, won't it, will it rain?

The rain clouds rumble in malicious glee
Rein in the raindrops wanting to break free
Of the cloud -forged manacles
But cannot rein in their own cackles
Bursting forth, answering the rampant question
Will it, won't it, will it rain?

Pitter, patter, pitter patter
The koel loves this refrain, has enough on its platter
The peacock squawks in self-congratulatory mirth
As the elusive raindrops drench the earth!

You have done it beautifully. Nature's landscape before the much awaited rains as well as after the rains has been done with its share of emotion and joy. Words, like birds in the poem, bring the whole atmosphere alive. Thanks, Santosh ji. Will it, won't it, will it rain? Pitter, patter, pitter patter
