And Still Poem by Bancroft Boreland

And Still

Rating: 3.5

Tommy Jenkins life
Is different from yours in many ways
But the most significant difference
Is that his parents are gay
He constantly wonders about this
But he refrains from asking them
Why they are who they are
They cared for him and loved him
They are the only ones who ever did

This society condemns them
And still Tommy loves them
At school they mock him, beat him up
And express how much they hate his parents
And still Tommy loves them
Tommy knows they aren’t his real parents
But still he loves them
Tommy knows that no matter the cost
You should spend your life with the person of your choice
Whether it’s wrong or right
You must decide your own life
So the world may continue to hate them
But Tommy Jenkins will always love his parents.

I understand the message, but the poem sounds redundant. Why the name Tommy Jenkins?
