The poem was set to music by Ottorini Respghi (" Aretusa" ;) . And while rarely performed, it is a glorious orchestral picture. In a splendid recording, Dame Janet Baker makes the original Shelley words literally sing, even in Italian

This is a great poem, it shows us that what we fear most, is the abbyss, but Shelley, sais it is the deep, that, we are facing, . He also, hints that god will be holding our hand in sai deep, this is symbolised by the glacier, this is all a chance to be in extacy, surounded with such beauty,
