Asleep Or Dead Poem by Kenneth Umunna

Asleep Or Dead

All night long
The roar of man is heard
In sleep our calms reveal
At least none ever violent
And like a dove they seem

All night long
We know not where we are
Like death it seems to feel
In death our calms reveal
Though their peace may differ

How many counts have we
Of the many times we die?
In it we’ll get to know
What providence we have
To be far far asleep
And far away from death

Our heart is cheated here
For day and night it rolls
Devoid of rest indeed
A partial death it is
Though dream-fully we breathe
