Awaken Poem by Alan Buckholtz

Awaken

When dreams are asleep
and summer is cool
shame my lethargy
release my cowardice
when passion surrenders
and the air can't breathe
wrench me
from my walking sleep
and thrash my torpor
slash the thorns off my rose
with whispered fury

Remind me that time
is a spent smile
that the spirit’s hymn
is a prayer answered
cling to my aura
bathe in my tears
knock on my heart
that my soul will hear
