Awakened Life Poem by Shadowed Past

Awakened Life

Life once meaningless;
A hopeless search for purpose
Wishing every minute to pass
Faster and faster with each second

Walking the hallways,
Befriending the shadows,
Of those who’s whispers
You so desperately try to hide behind

Awaiting the moment
When this would end,
Yet loving every bit of the slow torture
Which you’ve grown accustomed to

The one person you confide in
Turns you down
It’s all a joke,
A joke that she’s in fact told before

Months later it hits you
You can no longer hide
No more running
You’ve got to fight this

You slowly turn your life around
They don’t seem to understand what’s happened
Suddenly you’re a new person
However, still struggling to stay afloat

Questions and whispers fly about
But what difference does it make?
You are you
And they are them

What they don’t want to learn
Is at their own fault
Perhaps they fear the answers
Perhaps they were the reason

Surely enough
You’re all kids in a sand box again
What belongs to you
They cannot touch

You’ve got to make it out of here alive
It’s the least you can do
A new year is coming
A time to reinvent yourself

At last you are free
Free to be whom you choose
Befriend whom you choose
Love whom you choose
