Away From Home Poem by Sam Joseph

Away From Home

As we need a gentle breeze
That brings relief from life's wheeze
We sit to ponder smiles that sparkle and gleam
A glass of water can't quench the heart's deep dream
Places of broken promises, a fragile hold
Everyone hankers to rest peaceful scenes of gold
We yearn for a home with fragrance grace
A haven that brings a warm and a cozy space
Where the healing embraces the wounds and the trace
And the toddlers learn comfort with loving embrace
As a community bound by unity's design
This collective hope becomes truly divine
And the unity found within this shared shrine
Provides solace and strength, a comforting sign
What if there's no refuge here, would I get it away from my abode
Imagine No peace, no love, no mercy bestowed
In struggles we swim, in agonies we drown
With abrasions and tortures, our spirits are down
In daily storms caught, in valleys we fall
Like shattered peaks, we rise, only to fall
Mothers and kin, who'd help us ascend
Are far from this place, where we falsely depend
How could our home treat us with such disdain?
Chilly clouds gather, and scatter no rain
No sun's warm rays our smiles to prolong...
Should I meet my end, so far from where I belong?
This place may promise all desires to seize
And far from home, courage may grow with ease
But far from home, unseen fall my tears
And far from home, also happiness disappears
And far from home, no envy can reach me in the space
Yet home remains blind to the trials I face
Neither home nor away shows a truthful sign
Home's smile hides a cry, a deceptive design
I pick to be far away from home
Since home's peace is a hollow facade
