Backsliders Must Choose Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Backsliders Must Choose

“Backsliders make the devil smile
In him they break the rules
They’re in this world but for a while
Yet die the death of fools

In Christ! To die is yet to live
Salvation’s paid their dues
But life’s like sand within a sieve
For those who Christ refuse

You crave forgiveness for you shame
From evil that you’ve done
You pray my Spirit’s Holy Flame
Would cleanse you through my Son

To you the truth is all too plain
My word is surely true
If you repent, would seek again
Then I’ll return to you

For only fools would stay out there
I’ve seen it all before
Come now my child receive your share
Before I close the door

In Christ you’ll never see decay
Regardless of you debt
Take care my love, return today
Don’t lose your faith just yet

Be holy, for I’m holy too
Your sin I can’t abide
Repent is all I ask of you
Be clean and come inside

Reflect on all I’ve had to say
Repent change now your views
Return in Christ or stay away
The time is now to choose
