Bahloul Poem by Matloob Bokhari

Bahloul

Who could not walk laughed to see him dancing with heart.
Who could not hear the music called his trance insane.
Those who had accumulated goods and gold,
Failed to understand the Abbasid prince lived for Allah.
Up! His soul soared to Light in search of eternal wealth.
His eyes were always gazing on the King of the kings.
Since words are used not to reveal but to conceal,
So his true love in silence communicated volumes.
Remembering his Beloved, kinder than mother
He trod with bare foot upon the thorns of life.
Be it life or death, he was happy in His happiness.
Disciple of Ali nor relied on sweets of hereafter,
Nor loved to gain paradise with its groves,
Nor afraid of death for fear of falling into fire.
His faith was based on his desire to love his Beloved.
A light blazing in the dark street of Abbasid caliphate.
Haroun tearfully begged at his doorstep;
And Zubaida enjoyed a cup of heavenly drink.
The crown of Chosroes layed beneath his feet.
His earthen bowl far superior than Harun crown.
