Battle Scars Poem by eve coleman

Battle Scars

She hides her scars
With long sleeved shirts.
She hides her pain
Despite how much it hurts.
She smiles in the halls
And greets everyone around.
She tries to hide
From what’s bringing her down
At night, everything is different
As she lets down her guard.
Tears escape her eyes
As she slides a blade across her fore arm.
She’s been doing this for months
In the dead of night.
She’s battling herself
And she’s losing the fight.
She’s been doing this for so long
She doesn’t remember why anymore.
She feels the urge to spill her blood
Too much to ignore.
Nobody notices the angry red scars
Marching up and down her arms so sore
So she feels like no one cares
And then she does it some more.
