Behind Shrouded Eyes Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Behind Shrouded Eyes

Rating: 3.5

Whilst down life’s corridors we tread
To classrooms long since gone
We see the rich the famous dead
Who lived without God’s Son

We see their misty clouded eyes
We see each prison cell
No thought of God or paradise
No thought of death and hell

Tightly confined in self made jails
Unknown God’s Truth & Light
Behind the devil’s masks and veils
Behind their walls of night

We see through darkness shrouded minds
Their lustful thirst for gold
We see the chains which Satan binds
Their spirits lost and cold

Where tender hearts should only beat
Where tongues to God should cry
There tears and pain show man’s defeat
Whilst locked in sin they die

But God can see man’s loathsome state
He sees the heavy chains
He sees the day is growing late
Where still the devil reigns

The Father sees the heart of pride
He sees where man should go
He sees His Son with arms held wide
Where no one wants to know

Love also sees the eyes that see!
The ears by faith that hear
And these He’ll send the world to free
And teach His name to fear…
