Binary Nonsense Poem by Mary Champion

Binary Nonsense

A single one is one
and, not to be outdone -
two ones are three:
hence the trinity.
Two ones are not eleven,
and yet three ones are seven.
And who could have foreseen
That four ones are fifteen?

Two ones minus one is two.
Is the logic coming through?
Three ones minus one is six.
With a zero in the mix,
might be three or might be five,
brain is now in overdrive.
Four ones minus one might be
double three ones -you must see.

Binary bemuses us,
causing us to swear and cuss.
But computers take delight
in seeing things in black and white.
On or off - it's plain to see
no subtlety in binary.
So absolutely there's no way
1,1,0,0,1,0 shades of grey.
