Birdie Poem by Neso Onyeuche

Birdie

a little birdie had injured his wing
which, for a birdie, was not a good thing

hurt little birdie remained on the ground
looking up envious, stumbling around

stormy grey clouds entered, blocking all light
darkening a day that was ever so bright

mad little birdie then cursed at the sky
hobbling away, he found somewhere to hide;

leaned on a tree by the house round the bend
now by himself, for himself he must fend.

————

the man on the news (pretending to be sad)
told of the death of a man who was mad
who lived in the woods in the house round the bend

nobody knew of our feathery friend

————

though little birdie now rests in the dirt
safe little birdie is no longer hurt
