Birth Poem by freddie kearney

Birth

Birth

On the sea of life
In broad daylight
Two spirits passed
One another
Going in opposite
Directions

One was leaving
This world while
The other was
Entering it

With no time
For introductions
Leaver shouts
‘'Good luck''
Continuing his
Journey

Only God knows
Where? If or when?
Leaver's life had
Been long and full
Both good and bad
This, was his hour

Push? Push?
Implores a midwife
Come on girl you
Can do it,
Just one more
Big effort

The head is out!
(tension mounting)
One more push?
As she wiped sweat
From girl's head
Girl screams louder
Then air-raid siren
An almighty push
Brand new little
Human enters
Our world

No miracle our eyes
Or ears
Can behold
Like the
Miracle of Birth
And the cry of a
New born Babe.
