Black Cat Poem by Paul Seay

Black Cat

Rating: 5.0

To close my eyes upon the night would be not black as you

It would lack the mirrored sheen and shine the sun gazed into

Claws that hang as rain drops - frozen from the digits

Eyes warm and yellow said hello - while you squinted

Pupils carved as diamonds, fangs sharpened pearly white

- Though it's the way you relate to me, that pierces through the night

We shared a sudden glance, but our hearts were those that stared

Seeing past the darkness, in the cool autumn air

She followed with trust enough - not even to know my name

In her eyes there shown a love, and in mine shown the same

Tall, her tail trembled in the light November breeze

And resembled what was frail - in the center part of me

I then removed it from within, to warmly stroke her fur

She greeted me yet once again, and kissed me with a purr

Black cat (my living shadow) whom walks the cobblestone road

No light the day can gather, will shine you from my soul

We touched farewell that lingered remnants - her hair sill in hand

But what remains is innocence - the love of beast and man
