Blanket Diagnosis - Poem by Cheryl A. Caron

One great pile of papers
Kept in a tight manila fold
One blanket description
For everything; I’m told
Climb under the blanket
It won’t make the pain go away
Examine the sewn in label
It has nothing important to say
When you need a place to run
You’ll find this blanket is too small
To heal anyone from anything
Hence forth the inevitable wall
Legs do become weary from climbing
Nothing on either side is unseen
Assume the fetal position for comfort
Rock back and forth to sleep
What happened to yesterday?
It was here just a minute ago
Maybe it’s lost somewhere in the shuffle
Unforgotten; whether or not we know
Let’s just make lots of origami
There’s no fear in paper swans
Misplace a page or two of nightmares
Would anyone notice if they were gone?
