She's been round the block a few times,
had some happy and some blue times.
Now she says it's time to settle down.
But, as her hopes begin to founder,
restlessly she looks around her,
another hero proved to be a clown.
Had her share of men and then some,
always promising that when one
came along who made the grade,
she'd change her ways.
But there's no one who's perfect for her,
even though they all adore her,
before long they're sure to find their days
are numbered and she's changing partners,
she cannot do ever afters,
however much she says it's what she needs.
It's one more turn around the dance floor,
hoping this time there's a chance for
love that measures up in words and deeds.
Restless hearts like hers keep yearning
for a love that keeps on burning,
a flame that never flickers or dies down.
But she's not getting any younger
and still she cannot name her hunger
and never will until she turns around.
Stops searching through the world outside her
and listens so her heart can guide her
to where the love she longs for's always been.
A love that won't slip through her fingers,
whose sweet delight forever lingers
just the way that it does in her dreams.
