Blind Winter Poem by Mohammad Yousef

Blind Winter

By Mohammad A.Yousef

Winter walks in, silent and cold,
wrapped in a cloak of white,
the world dimmed to shades of gray,
trees stand stark, stripped of their leaves,
branches like fingers, reaching up,
grasping for the sun that hides away.

Footprints fade in the crunching snow,
each step muffled, swallowed whole,
as if the earth has learned to hush,
to keep its secrets buried deep,
under layers of frost and ice
where stories wait, yet untold.

The sky is heavy, holding its breath,
clouds sag like old blankets,
the air shivers, sharp and clean,
pulling the warmth from cheeks and noses,
chasing whispers of laughter away,
leaving only a distant echo.

Frost clings to the windowpanes,
a thousand tiny stars,
each one a small dream,
trapped in a stillness
that seems to stretch for miles.
Inside, the world feels tucked in,
a cozy corner filled with light.

There are moments of magic,
when snowflakes fall like feathers,
each piece unique, a little miracle,
drifting down with a gentle grace
to rest upon the sleeping ground,
as if the earth were writing a lullaby.

But winter is also a longing,
a deep breath held too long,
time stretches out like shadows
growing long and lazy,
the days bleed into nights
not knowing where one ends and the other begins.

We huddle in our knitters' homes,
sipping thick cocoa, sharing warmth,
telling tales of summers past,
but as the pale light fades,
we wonder how long the chill will hold,
when will spring once more unfold?

Yet in this blind winter,
there is strength held within the stillness,
an invitation to pause, to reflect,
to find beauty in the quiet,
to connect in these frozen moments,
where love can bloom against the odds,
and hope can weave its way
through layers of ice and snow.

So let the season wrap its arms around us,
let the world outside grow hushed,
for in this blindness, we search for light,
knowing that that warmth will return,
that spring will break through stubborn snow,
and blind winter will fade into memory,
becoming part of the story we tell
to warm our hearts in a future that glows.
