Bone Fide - Poem by Gary Mele

I read a poem that made me think
Of tripping over watermelons
Or was that a Madonna song?

I ride the subway, the number one
Packed with felons, packing guns
Or maybe they’re just purple hair and blue eye shadow
And pierce-ed tongues

I can’t forget that song I heard
It wasn’t Madonna or Sheryl Crow
Some artist desperate for recognition
A back up singer I’ll never know

Her rhyme is cut like bitten meat
It makes me think about eye teeth
A cock-ed smile and evil eyes
With thick eyelashes bona fide
