Breakfast At Mickey D's Poem by bob barci

Breakfast At Mickey D's

For a change,
I did something a little differently today.
Got up as usual,
made myself somewhat presentable,
and sampled the coffee I made last night
and kept in a thermos.
It was disgusting.
Well, that’s what happens when you fill
a twelve cup pot with water and then discover
that you only have enough coffee for four or five cups.
I dumped it into the sink
that still had last night dishes in it.
It was only eight o’clock,
and I didn’t have to back in court until ten: thirty.
Oh yea, that.
What fun to be on jury duty this week.
Knowing that the eating lounge there
contains only a few vending machines
with nothing that I really want,
I stopped at Mickey D’s.
And just the one I worked at for three years.
It was nice to be there
and see some of my former co-workers
who were still there.
I leisured over two breakfast items -
one I got at half price, and the other for free.
So, now I’m waiting again in the jurors room.
Got put on a panel yesterday
but the judge postponed questioning us till today.
I brought along a walkman and a few tapes to listen to.
And so far, the highlight of the day
was having breakfast at Mickey D’s.
