My missing muse appeared again today,
but sadly nothing inspiring transpired.
I said, 'Please explain why you went away? '
and he answered - 'Your licence expired! '
'My licence? ' I queried, 'What licence was that? '
'The licence you're granted to waste my time,
giving you insights on which you have sat -
hoarding them uselessly - both prose and rhyme.'
'Yes, you gave me the words, ' I protested.
'But never the ears that might wish to hear.
And you know all the times I've requested
someone to share with, without any fear
they will laugh in my face and ignore me.
And you know I've attempted to find some,
but still there's no audience for me.
And that, you well know is why I'm dumb.'
But he left and his enigmatic smile
faded with infuriating languor.
He offered no advice - such is his style -
never has been noted for his candour.
