Brother's Keeper Poem by Olalekan Joseph Ajayi

Brother's Keeper

Before the burning flares
We knew no boundaries
Now you erect barriers
Ours are hymns of peace
But you chant war songs
We speak one tongue
But you tell your spawns
That our sons are sworn enemies
And our daughters, outcasts
We own this land
And what flows beneath
But your tryst with strangers
Has blurred your vision
And distorts our inherited history
You seek our heads to crack open
Coconuts that you may eat
You channel your offscouring
Into our water wells
We point you to the Ordnance
But you hire voices to chant: "crucify them! "
Ensnare us with chains
Slash our throats with foreign blades
Our blood shall be curses to this land
