But Inside He Found A Rose - Poem by Ryan Glover

He smiled like he always did.
But inside he frowned.
He floated like he always did.
But inside he drowned.
He answered like he always did.
But inside he was silent.
He embraced like he always did.
But inside he was violent.
He tried like he always did.
But inside he had stopped.
He rose like he always did.
But inside he had dropped.
He told the truth like he always did.
But inside he had lied.
He survived like he always did.
But inside he had died.

And he looked twice and there was the red, red rose.
And he looked twice and there is where he grows.
And he looked twice and there he is complete.
And he looked twice and there was no defeat.

But inside he denied.
Whenever his rose tried.
But inside he had died.
Whenever his rose cried.

And he looked twice and the rose was in his hand.
And he looked twice and discovered he could stand.

He stood like he always did.
To all his inside foes.
He survived like he always did.
'Cuz inside he had his rose.
