Cages Poem by Andrus Cassian

Cages

Rating: 5.0

I am a lion, ravenous
sealed in a cage
Should I be roaming free, honestly
throw away the key
turn your back, avert your eyes
please don't take a chance and take a second glance
Today I'd go through fire
but I'm all too tired
to spill all that transpired
In instinct, I'm preying upon the victim
who sparked my rage, sparked my hatred
providing a trailer for the violent ways I could claw out their eyes
while I pace the floor of my iron bar prison
in calm, sweet calm
to avoid the fact that I'm dwelling the drowning effect
of unknown surprises
I am a lion, ravenous
throw away the key
refuse to set me free
The flashing lights of the camera
irritate me, so I roar in offense
stay far away from me
Don't bother to take a chance to look back
I put myself through fire
just to retire
and never see the light of this day again
cause I'm too tired
to spill what all transpired
