Can You See Me My Dear? Poem by Caroline S. P. Keller

Can You See Me My Dear?

Hello, do you see me?
Yes I am right here
In front of your eyes
Can you see me my dear?

Have you gone blind?
Why won’t you speak?
Please talk to me
And tell me you’re here for me to keep

I promised you that day
That I was going to stay
And never leave you alone
Or ever go away

You look so pale
And your touch is so cold
Please don’t go away
Your hands are what I want to hold

Your eyes are growing weary
I watch them as they droop
Can I help in anyway?
How about a nice bowl of soup?

Your heart beats slower with time
And I can hear the faint beeping
Of the machine that is keeping you alive
While you go away, peacefully sleeping

The beeping slowly comes to a stop
Ending in a straight line
I become angry and sad
For death had took what was rightfully mine

Hello, do you hear me?
For I have always been here
Because I love you
I’ll never leave you my dear
