Carcasses Poem by Suresh Dogra

Carcasses

This nasty poem, written in the manner of Jonathan Swift's essay, A Modest Proposal, is meant as a satire to shame killers of elephants.

Let us kill some more elephants
To decorate our sweet girl friends
Glints of ivory ornaments
Elephants know of no defence

When bullets shatter their thick hide
They fall at once on bare ground
Man, God's own image, fills with pride
Mammoth life dribbling out of wound

Carcasses in the sun look nice
Matchless in beauty look girl friends
Elephants make a sacrifice
Animals serve our noble ends
