Careful Isn't You Poem by Neso Onyeuche

Careful Isn't You

I know you've heard the warnings

fear the dark
run away
will my void engulf the spark?
only if you choose to stay

sit beside me in my prison
in this cell you call a heart
why would you make that decision?
for a doll that's come apart

I won't ask you why you're smiling
when my hand is in your grip
but I'll try to recreate it
with each cracked and peeling lip

you're not saving me from ruin
you're just sinking in it too
if you stay, you'll learn the doing
of what darkness does to you

I'll pretend I never warned you
as the end begins to hum
you will whisper "I'm not leaving"
and I'll ache for what's to come
