'Casual Acquaintance' Poem by joseph nez

'Casual Acquaintance'

I use to drive for miles and miles
under a sunset
under promenading dreams.
Across the pattern of desert life
into the evening way before dawn.
Heavenly stars I remember
pouring memories
walking heart hand in hand
filling me as like a clay vase.

Oh... the things I could recall
I could see for miles and miles
Out of my window of life
I saw the trail of beauty bright
the fallen love yet a star light

In all compassion, quiet and sudden
Beautiful shades, colors luring.
The fainted passion, faded, painted
into the night shadows by the moon.

She went swiftly
diminishing my thoughts.
A fallen star is rare
free from affection's care
into the depth of the past
lasting unusually, gently, kind, warm.

How beautiful evening's peace has become
That some stars shine brighter
and yet some none.
