Chasing Shadows Poem by Chukuemeka Akpe

Chasing Shadows

The rot has become pungent for all to now inhale:
The Head and the Neck locked in an egocentric tussle,
The venomous tirades of tyrants poisoning a nation.
The thick, stale dust long buried beneath red carpets,
The brooms of spite that mischievously let it loose,
The plumes that fill the tablets with the sordid tales,
The verbiage trickles down as putrid flows to sully
The image of a body 'ready racked by a malignancy.
The shroud of secrecy is ripped into ruthless shreds,
The bond of dark trades comes unstuck in bitter revenge,
The sidelines bray out their rebuffs with furious kicks,
The spectacle wearies many with a bout of queasiness,
The arbiters tally up score sheet of an ominous duel,
The searchlight of truth swirls in circles eating up lies.
