Church Disguise Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Church Disguise

The world at large is looking on
Our deeds are plain to see
The bride should serve The Father’s Son
Should set the captive free

Instead, we’ll seek the finest fare
Wearing a church disguise
We bow the head kneel down in prayer
Singing a song of lies

We come with children to the font
We stand as groom and bride
We bury loved ones still in want
Without God’s Truth inside

We criticize we tear apart
We backbite, cheat and kill
We say we’ve Jesus in our heart
Yet fail to do His will

We fail to plant Salvation’s seed
We lie to God above
We rob The Lord of tithe and deed
And neighbours of our love

We say The Father’s will be done
We hope our faults to hide
We act as though we serve God’s Son
Who for our sins has died

We see the blind, those plagued with doubt
We see the lost in jail
We know what Satan’s all about
Yet still like fools we fail

We need to bow our heads in shame
We need to seek God’s face
We need true cleansing through The Flame
And serve The Lord with grace…
