Circling Saturn - Poem by Maurice Rowlands

A fallen angel
Tumbled down into Paris
Impaled on the tower
With such power
That it’s poisoned rats
From a filthy jihad sewer
Caused the people to cower
While the bullets and bombs
Rained down in one hour
We fell to our knees
To pray
To a god who simply looked away

What this world is yearning
While the futile hands of its clock
Are still turning
Even though the clock itself
Is crashing and burning
Is an end to such evil
And terror
Feel that kick from within?
That’s the future
Telling us to sort out this error
To get our shit together
And let peace time begin

I just want to jump in a spaceship
And head out to the unknown
With loved ones, or maybe alone
Away from the fighting
The hatred, the clawing and biting
To distance myself from
That one suicide vest igniting
If you need me
I’ll be circling Saturn
For I don’t know how long
Till you can all just get along
