Coldness Poem by Ella Goodman

Coldness

I have been defeated by your coldness,
‘Coldness' so strong and deep to numb all my senses.
Though at times I am overwhelmed in your thoughts,
That churn and make me restless,
Like the crashing waves upon the shore.

At times I succumb to my weakness,
My heart heavy and mind clouded,
So many scenarios run in my mind ignited by raw feelings,
And then like a sharp cold knife, reality puts me back to my senses,
Freezing the embers within.

Encumbered senses arrest my throbbing beats,
When my lips purr your name.
Desperate like a wanderer looking for water in the deserts,
My eyes search for your sight,
Illusion grips, like vision of the oasis
Shimmering before —Alas! a mirage it is.

In dreams I envisage a rendezvous
Where I run up to your smiling face,
Your arms stretched out to greet,
With that twinkle in your eyes eager to meet.
Then as I draw close,
It all vanishes, reality striking hard in my face,
Gutted in fires of passion, flames of it all extinguish in a moment.

Your coldness grows louder with time,
Stretching more like the space as I walk with no reaching point.
Ever expanding, ripples of ache radiating throughout,
Drowning the faintest glint of warmth that dares to arise.
Strange it is though that I still crave for your touch
Despite it all, aware that there is no future meant to last.
