Consider This Wretch Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Consider This Wretch

Scold me, beat me spare no rod
Consume each evil thing
Restore true fear for You my God
Allow me serve my King

Your servant Job I can’t replace
Moses Your friend’s unique
So if one day I’ll see Your face
I need the truth to seek

Though Satan wields a mighty sword
Although his wares are sweet
I’ll yield no more to him my Lord
Nor savour more defeat

Silver and gold I’ve come to buy
My heart I lay before
Without Your grace I cannot die
And enter Heaven’s door

With heart and soul I’ll stay my post
I’ll stand though many fall
Through grace and through Your Holy Ghost
In answer to Your call

Consider this child Almighty Lord
You’ve cleansed and made me whole
Put in my mouth Salvation’s sword
And love to heal man’s soul

I know all keys are in Your hand
Much work remains undone
I see that death plagues every land
Yet life can still be won

I’ll stay You true, I’ll never stray
This child won’t let You down
I’ll follow Jesus all the way
To life’s eternal crown…
