She was just a little shy of fifty-eight
As she stared into the sky
Said, "friends, I'll be there
With you soon.
If you can cross that bridge,
I can too."
The Christmas lights twinkled,
Had a calming effect
In the sky
On the first new moon.
She was staring into the darkness
But she found the light
Couldn't describe it to others
It was too dark for them
To understand
Paradise.
Cold rivers crossed
Bare feet sinking in the mud
Dark dreams scattered
Every night, come dusk
Made her finally understand
She couldn't be
A better man.
The dawn will come
And they will awake
Maybe not right away
But she's left her mark
On the dozing eyes
Of those she loved
Her presence will glow
On the lives she touched
If only for a heartbeat,
And it will sound forever.
