Crazy System Poem by Amna Haleem

Crazy System

I’m so tired
So very exhausted
I want to succeed
But sometimes
I just can’t seem to make myself care

It’s so tedious
And mindless
Pointless waste of time
So un-engaging
And boring
No wonder I can’t stand it

This flawed system
Focussing solely on the top
Ignoring all those whose skills
Just don’t add up

It’s painful to see
So many crushed dreams
So many broken hearts
So many tears of frustration
Because of society’s belief

Why can’t it just leave us alone?
What if I don’t want what you do?
What if my goal is different?
So what if I choose to follow my heart?
Is it so wrong to not care?

Why must we be forced?
To follow another’s belief
Why must I see?
Friends ripping hair out
Due to a bad mark
Due to a mistake
To err is human
So why then am I attacked?
For a single mistake I make
Why then is all the good ignored
When one bad appears?

This whole world is stupid
And it really is a cage
Trapping so many souls in its mindless machine
Into the madness of life

Why can’t we all just relax?
And just calm down for a moment
Why can’t we forget monetary value?
And see the bigger picture

Life isn’t about status
Or the money
Or the job
It’s to find fulfilment
And to worship the Lord

So honestly,
Can I be blamed?
If the whole system is crazy
Then why am I the one who’s wrong?
