Daddy Come Back Poem by Janice G. McLoughlin

Daddy Come Back

My heart is breaking
I can not breathe
My daddy is sick
And soon must leave

I'm not prepared
to deal with this
The final words
That last sweet kiss

Please God take him
With a gentle hush
To my mothers arms
That he missed so much

She's been gone
Almost 7 years
He did his best
To hide the tears

Now he's tired
And he can rest
He did his job
He was the best

Another leaf falls
From my family tree
Daddy please
Come back for me...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
After 9 days in he hospital my dad was told he was going to die of heart & kidney failure because he was not strong enough to survive the surgery to save his life. After seeing his face when the doctors told him the news I sat up with my mind racing until I decided to write this at 2: 0am. He came home the next day and 24 hours later which was this morning he died very peaceful in his own bed.He was 81 years old and the best dad in the world. I don't know how I will make it without him.
