Daddy's Boots Poem by Keli Mims

Daddy's Boots

[7/5/10- for my dad who died 6 months ago that date. My dad always wore these brown work boots.]

Daddy's boots left by the back door,
The sight of them makes my heart sore.
By the back door they set unlaced,
And all I can do is think of your face.
Mud and grease cover them completly stained,
A constant reminder of this horrible pain.
No one can fill these shoes or the empty hole,
the hole that's not only in my heart but in my soul.
These are daddy's work boots left empty and alone,
They make this house feel more like a home.

Daddy's boots left by the back door,
Just like you'd put them before.
No one else can fill a father's shoes,
nor can anyone fill my father's boots.
Strongly missed and still so loved,
But thats no where near enough,
To ever bring you back here,
Nothing not even my tears.
So here's to my father, my dad,
Of the memories that we had.

Daddy's boots left by the back door,
little pieces of dirt left by them on the floor.
Just one glance a memory comes to mind,
A diffrent thought at every time.
So I guess I'll see you on the other side,
Or when I think of you in my mind,
Or out in the batter's box or on the field,
Or when I go to the temple to be sealed.
I know you'll be there even iff i cant see,
You'll be here in my mind with me.
But for now I guess it'll have too be,
that the only thing of yours i can see,
Are my daddy's boots.
