Daemon Came To Church - Poem by Kevin Patrick

A daemon came in disguised as a lamb
and made a house of God into his bloody abattoir
weeping eyes of Christ watched from stain glass windows
Hand-prints traced in red left his mark upon the alter
From those he mislead and made him fully welcome
Little did they know their home would be their tomb
As he sat their and listened to hymns and celestial praises
skulking like a plotter in a coat of ivory hate
When the voices ran in joy, triple tongue to the Messiah
It seemed for a moment their was a place on earth at peace
Suddenly he took a 45 caliber out from his fanny pack
And aimed the oiled barrel with his Lilly white hands
Shots rang out like the thunder of Armageddon
and the cry's of the lord turned to pleas from heaven
One young man jumped in to try and save his aunt
But he was the first laid waste on that Wednesday evening
As the Blood rained down where the old women fell
Four pastors and sexton lay down in Gods ruin
Then a terrified women called through destruction
Wanting to know why this Cherub was killing
He said without emotion into terrified eyes
I got to save the country, your raping our women
Then he loaded another bullet aimed his gun at a librarian
Who had been and was someones grandmother
when the final bullet flew, he left with words of spite
Like a soldier born of evil, his enemies were innocent
Nine souls laid to waste, born of Kings now martyred
A daemon came to church and made terror from the Ash
But though he took the body he could not destroy the soul
And the soul can slay the demon with the message it fears - hope
