Damascus Road Extended Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Damascus Road Extended

Detesting much that’s gone before
Fearing the things to be
O Lord dear God there ‘must’ be more
I cried on bended knee

You’ve seen how much I’ve lived to shame
The evil things I’ve done
Disrespecting Your holy name
Despising Christ Your Son

But now I’ve seen The Truth and Light
I’ve heard Your Living Word
I’m ready Lord to fight the fight
And practice all I’ve heard

I pray there’s hope for me dear Lord
Forgive this errant fool
Come save me from Your vengeful sword
And raise me as a tool

For on the highway to nowhere
You opened ear and eye
You’ve shown me things You have to share
Beyond where eagles fly

I wish my God to change my ways
I pray You cleanse my heart
That I may serve You all my days
And have a brand new start

Just like my God You did for Saul
Along Damascus Road
You changed his heart and named him Paul
And took his heavy load

Through Jesus’ love I’ve no more doubt
You’ll take my every fear
So here in faith I’m crying out
I’m calling loud and clear
