Darbhanga Raj Poem by Bhaskaranand Jha Bhaskar

Darbhanga Raj

Rating: 5.0

Remnants of red ramparts
Of a philanthropic empire
Of the fort of Darbhanga
With palatial buildings
Temples erected on graves,
Carved with a stunning art
And marvelous architecture
Now shriek and lament
In backyards of the present
Over the loss of the sheen,
Magnificent grandeur
The glorious past,
Enriched cultural heritage,
The global accolade
So well accumulated
By virtue of lore and learning
Spread far and wide
By the rulers of the land.

Dignity of the royal dynasty
That made no stone unturned
In saving the prestige
Of seekers of all strata
And the national states,
The social reformers
And the lovers of education
Witnessed itself
Crestfallen, all in ruins
Auctioned brick by brick.

As ill luck would have it!
What remains of it,
On the bosom of the land of lore
Is eventful, deadly debris
Of prompt generosity and deeds
Or may be misdeeds (?)
Of the kingly connoisseurs
With their soul floundering
In the dark dungeon of oblivion
Searching for a befitting resurrection
Of the historical, cultural dignity:
The glorious grandeur of Darbhanga!
