Dare To Dream Poem by T.S. Wilkins

Dare To Dream

Rating: 5.0

My soul…..

A crystal piece of glistening glass
So useless now it seems,
Dropped by the hands of wishes…
Shattered by my dreams.

Reaching for that sparkling wonder
But really, it’s too far
So why should I dare to dream
When I am the falling star?

Doubt now lies like ancient dust
Upon my battered soul
Covering all my childlike dreams
That now are weak and old—

And hope is like a torn old rag
Whose time has reached its end
For all the dust of doubt and pain,
It cannot clean within.

Oh what a risk it is to take
To listen to kindness sing,
“Pick up the pieces, oh broken one
And dare, sweet one, to dream.”

Dream again…you ask of me?
It’s dreams that placed me here,
And left me lost in unknown woods
To shed a failure’s tears.

Do you not know the song you sing
Is easier said than done
For what it is—is a hard fought battle
I’ve lost more than I’ve won.

Do you not know my soul is tired?
Did you not see me fall
Upon that fierce, cold battleground?
Do you not watch me crawl—

Gasping for a bit of breath
Reaching out my hand
Hearing the voice of long despair
Telling me I cannot stand?

Kindness, don’t you see my struggle?
Why is it that you sing?
Where do you find that it is easy
For my pain to dare to dream?

Is it that my heart is bitter….?
For life has brought no ease
And so my soul will trust no touch.
Forgive me, Kindness, please.

My soul may be a quiet one
But yes, it has been scorned
For though it blooms as does a rose,
Still it knows of thorns.

But I am not the quitting kind,
Though shattered I may be
Though hope is like a useless rag
Though doubt does dwell in me

I hear your voice call out to me,
So still, Sweet Kindness, sing
And I’ll pick up my broken pieces
And I will dare to dream.

Without hopes and dreams, we might as well be dead. Remember, as they say, when one door closes another opens. Nicely done, and in my favorite style - love the rhyming - impressive! Linda ; -)
