You still remain a mystery to me,
a puzzle that's eternally unsolved.
Suspect that is the way it had to be,
despite the fact that once my life revolved
around the thought, the sight, the touch of you.
The agony of doubt when your glance strayed,
the fear of what betrayal might ensue
when love, that once was mine, began to fade.
But it was I who walked out on the dream,
uncertainty, far more than I could bear,
impelled me to forsake what might have been
and made me counterfeit a lack of care.
Yet, after all these years, my troubled mind
still seeks the answer it will never find.
