Daughter Poem by Minnie Gehrig

Daughter

Daughter mine, with Ebony hair,
When your heart is broken
I fear i will be tounge -tied

You so fair,
my mermaid girl,
swimming in uncertainty at 6

I fear for your brave heart,
Least it lead you into my footsteps shadow,

Close Dark eyes
Dream of your princesses
Not yet knowing the confinement of a castle,

Kings my child are demanding creatures,
who fear love more than greatness,

Princes are poets, wandering the world
they search for themselves,

Stay under the waves dark mermaid,
let the water take you under,
whispering the secrets of all great men,
breath not the bitter smell
of unrequieted love.
