Daughter...Interrupted Poem by Antonia Nasi

Daughter...Interrupted

Rating: 3.5

I remember often,
so long ago... the dreams you had for me,
You'd say with pride in your eyes:
'I see what you can be.'

So happy you were, your first little girl,
You held me to your chest...and promised me the world

Now fallen from grace,
Now fallen from me,
When you look at me Daddy, who is it you see?

I look in your eyes,
Then glance at the floor,
And think to myself...you deserved so much more

I've broken your heart,
And caused falling tears,
Although you'll deny it...you've been crying for years

The daughter you had,
That light in your life,
That girl that I was...still lingers inside.

Broken and worthless,
I've made such a mess,
I don't understand how you love me no less

Beauty and talent you see in me still,
How I wish I was born with your strength and your will

My father I vow,
From now on you'll see,

The daughter you loved...
Us, the way we should be.
