Socrates examined his life
Others' as well minutely
For this wisdom he had
To pay with his life
An unexamined life
Is not worth-living
He declared
Who can question
One who questioned all
Still our lesser lights
Have seen examined lives
As worthless as unexamined
Guilt-ridden conscience
Chews over the past
Not to spit it out
But to swallow whole
The churned poison
Examine the mind
Before it flows into folly
Or spills into action
What is done
Can't be undone
By the lamentation of a lifetime
Brooding in the graveyard
Spells morbid mourning
Let the dead bury the dead
And the living celebrate life
