Dear Madam Manuela and Sir Klaus Fleischmann,
When we walked through unfamiliar lands,
You greeted us with a smile.
You brought a gentle presence where distance once was.
You reached out and touched us
When others shied away from our skin,
Judging humanity by purity and impurity.
But you touched us freely,
Even though we were refugees, asylum seekers, and strangers.
From that moment, love began to grow.
You wrapped our asylum family in warmth,
And slowly, quietly,
The weight of loneliness started to lift.
In places of whiteness where we felt invisible,
You reminded us we were not alone.
You showed that beautiful souls still stand by us.
You lifted our broken spirits,
Shared our pain, trauma, and silences,
And carried our sorrow as if it were your own.
When we laid our son, Stanford, to rest,
And walked away with shattered hearts,
You promised to visit him.
And you kept that promise.
You stood beside him in the graveyard,
And in doing so, you told the world
That he was not alone.
No child will ever be alone
As long as angels like you walk this earth.
Your love for our son Saviour,
For Stanford,
For our Black family,
Is forever etched in our hearts.
Unforgettable. Unerasable.
When we left Germany, you came to see us.
When we returned from the Netherlands, you welcomed us again.
You never stopped asking about our safety.
You never stopped caring for our protection.
You never stopped holding our family in your hearts.
You are Good Samaritans,
Born into this world by God's grace,
Cherished for your kindness,
Chosen for your mercy.
Thank you for loving and caring
For displaced people, asylum seekers, and refugees like us.
My wife, my sons—Saviour and Stanford—
And countless others who walk the same fragile path
Are forever grateful to your big and beautiful hearts.
We are forever indebted
To you,
A wonderful couple,
A living testament to humanity and love.
