Death: The Pain Poem by Ebitimi Munemune

Death: The Pain

It comes on the door to knock
Takes its victim by shock
So life floats away
Without a say
Following the ebb tide
Into the ocean wide

I could retrain you from going
If I had a bit of knowing
It was too early
Missing you so dearly
We rejoiced in the morning
By dusk you left me mourning
Still, I keep asking why
Did you die?

Since then, none to call a dad
It is awfully sad
Though a child
But in my memory is filed
The strict uncompromising, loving strokes
To sharpen me stand out among folks
Ah! The fatherly eyes are no more
Since, you took the flight to the other shore

It has been many years
But I am still in tears
I long to forget it all
O! Comes a daily call
Because here are your children
Because here are my brethren
You left behind
Who occupy my mind
